Is it safe to use the Google Indexing API?

What Google says, and how Cromojo uses it

Google's documentation says the Indexing API is meant for job postings and livestream pages. In practice it accepts any page, and many Cromojo customers use it for regular websites.

What this means for you

  • Google still decides what gets indexed. The API asks Google to crawl a page sooner; it can't force a page into the index. See Can you guarantee indexing?

  • You stay in control. Set auto-indexing to Off in Google Indexing to submit only the pages you choose, or turn it back on any time.

  • Google is not your only option. Bing and IndexNow reach other search engines through their own official channels. See Bing Indexing and IndexNow Installation Instructions.

If you'd rather not use the Indexing API at all, keep auto-indexing off, use Bing and IndexNow, and request indexing for your key pages in Search Console yourself.
