Choosing your analytics tracking option

On Pro plans and above, Settings > Analytics has an Analytics tracking option. It decides whether Cromojo recognises a visitor who comes back on another day. Choose it before you copy your script, because the choice is built into the snippet.

The three options

Cookie-free only (default). Every visit is counted anonymously and forgotten at the end of the day. Nothing is stored on the visitor's device, so you don't need a cookie banner for your analytics. The catch: someone who clicks your Google ad on Monday and comes back to buy on Friday looks like two strangers, and the sale is credited to Direct.

Server-side + cookie-free (opt-in). Everyone starts cookie-free. When a visitor clicks Accept on your cookie banner, Cromojo starts recognising them when they come back. Visitors who ignore or decline the banner stay anonymous. You need a cookie banner for this option to do anything.

Server-side + cookie-free (opt-out). Every visitor is recognised when they come back, unless they opt out or their browser asks not to be tracked. Whether this is allowed depends on where your visitors live, and you're responsible for having a lawful basis for it.

Connecting your cookie banner (opt-in)

Cromojo reads consent automatically from Google Consent Mode (analytics_storage) and from IAB TCF banners. With another banner, tell Cromojo when the visitor decides:

Tracking address on your own website

With a server-side option you can also run tracking from an address on your own domain (for example stats.yourdomain.com). Browsers forget tracking from another company's address after about 7 days; from your own address, visitors can be remembered for up to 400 days.

  1. Type the first part of the address (for example "stats").

  2. Add the CNAME record Cromojo shows you at your DNS provider.

  3. Contact support@cromojo.com before switching it on. We need to issue a security certificate for your address first, or browsers will refuse the connection and no tracking will reach us.

  4. Click Verify, then Save.

After you save

Cromojo shows "Your analytics script has changed". Copy the new snippet and replace the old one on your website. Until you do, the old option stays in effect.
